1. About these terms
1.1 These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of Gurmat Bani, including any courses, lessons, texts, audio, quizzes, and other materials or features made available through the Site (together, the "Services").
1.2 By accessing or using the Services, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.
1.3 We may update these Terms from time to time (see clause 15). Your continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
2. About Gurmat Bani
2.1 Gurmat Bani is an educational resource for learning about Sikhi through Gurbani. The Services are provided for personal study, reflection, and education.
2.2 The Services are not a substitute for guidance from a qualified religious authority. Nothing on the Site constitutes a religious ruling (maryada determination), legal, financial, medical, or professional advice.
3. Eligibility and accounts
3.1 You may browse public parts of the Site without an account. Some Services may require you to register.
3.2 If you are under [16 / 18], you may use the Services only with the involvement and consent of a parent or guardian, who accepts these Terms on your behalf.
3.3 When you create an account, you agree to provide accurate information, keep it up to date, keep your login details secure, and take responsibility for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly at [contact email] of any unauthorised use.
4. Licence to use the Services
4.1 Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use the Services for your own private, non-commercial study.
4.2 You must not, except as permitted by law or with our prior written consent: copy, reproduce, republish, distribute, sell, licence, or commercially exploit any part of the Services; remove any notices; or use the Services to build or train any product, dataset, or model.
5. Intellectual property
5.1 Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and Gurbani are sacred and are not claimed as our property. However, the Site's original materials — including course structure, written explanations, translations and transliterations we prepare, design, graphics, and software — are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws.
5.2 Third-party names, texts, and resources referred to on the Site remain the property of their respective owners.
6. Respectful use
6.1 Gurbani is treated with reverence. You agree to engage with the Services respectfully and not to use them to mock, demean, distort, or misrepresent Sikhi, Gurbani, or the Guru.
6.2 You must not use the Services to: break any law; infringe anyone's rights; upload harmful code; attempt to gain unauthorised access; harass, abuse, or harm others; or misrepresent your identity or affiliation.
7. Your content
7.1 The Services may let you submit content such as reflections, answers, comments, or forum posts ("User Content").
7.2 You retain ownership of your User Content. You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, and display your User Content as needed to operate and improve the Services.
7.3 You are responsible for your User Content and confirm you have the right to submit it. We may review, moderate, or remove User Content that breaches these Terms, at our discretion.
8. Enrolment, fees and refunds
8.1 Where a course or feature has a fee, the price and any access conditions are shown on the relevant page before you enrol. [Set out payment method, billing, and access period here.]
8.2 Our Services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these Terms limits those rights.
8.3 [Set out your refund and cancellation policy here — for example, cooling-off period, conditions for refunds, and how to request one.]
9. Third-party links and resources
9.1 The Services may link to third-party sites and tools (for example, translation or audio resources). We do not control and are not responsible for third-party content, and a link does not imply endorsement. Your use of third-party services is governed by their own terms.
10. Availability
10.1 We aim to keep the Services available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Services at any time without liability, so far as the law allows.
11. Disclaimers
11.1 To the maximum extent permitted by law, and subject to clause 8.2, the Services and all content are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, including as to accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose. Educational content, including translations and explanations, is provided in good faith for study and may contain errors or reflect particular interpretations.
12. Limitation of liability
12.1 Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any guarantee, right, or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or other law that cannot lawfully be excluded.
12.2 Subject to clause 12.1, to the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss, or loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Services; and our total liability is limited, at our option, to re-supplying the relevant Services or paying the cost of having them re-supplied.
13. Indemnity
13.1 To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify us against claims, losses, and costs arising from your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the Services.
14. Suspension and termination
14.1 We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms or where reasonably necessary to protect the Services or others. You may stop using the Services at any time. Clauses that by their nature should survive termination will survive.
15. Changes to these Terms
15.1 We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new effective date, and where changes are material we will take reasonable steps to notify you.
16. Governing law
16.1 These Terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, and you submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that place.
